Black Sabbath a déjà 6 titres dans la boite, et l'album est prévu pour avril. Iommi espère avoir 15 titres au final.
Le groupe donnera 5 concerts en Australie, Nouvelle Zélande en avril et en mai prochain, ils sont aussi à l'affiche du Festival Ozzfest le 12 mai 2013 au Japon.

Black Sabbath continue work on their new album, their first with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978’s “Never Say Die.”

The project is due to be released in April, the same month Sabbath kick off their 2013 world tour.

On Monday, Ozzy shared a photo from the recording sessions (below), writing, “Back to work on the Black Sabbath album - my view from the vocal booth.”

A few months ago, bassist Geezer Butler said that 15 songs had been written, and that he expected 12 of them will make the record, with the additional three serving as bonus tracks for different special editions.

The album will not feature contributions from original Sabbath drummer Bill Ward, who continues to sit things out over a contract dispute.

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND (January 13, 2013)--Today, the 13th of January 2013, rock legends BLACK SABBATH have announced the title of their new album, 13, which will be released this June (exact date TBA). The original BLACK SABBATH--OZZY OSBOURNE (vocals), TONY IOMMI (guitar) and GEEZER BUTLER (bass)--have recorded the album primarily in Los Angeles and were joined at the sessions by drummer Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine). Produced by Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year), the album will be released on Vertigo (worldwide) and Vertigo/Republic in the U.S. 13 marks the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees’ return to Vertigo, the band’s original label; it’s the group’s first studio album together since 1978’s Never Say Die! They have sold over 70 million albums together.

In advance of the album’s release, BLACK SABBATH will head to New Zealand, Australia and Japan for live performances (see below for tour dates). Additional tour plans will be revealed in the coming months.

"Pour l'album, il s'agissait d'un titre temporaire. Donc, on ne sait pas si ce sera le titre définitif de l'album. Initialement, on devait mettre 13 titres mais nous sommes parvenus à composer 16 titres et pour le moment, je ne sais pas de ce qui sera sur l'album et de ce qui n'y sera pas.

Concernant le nouveau batteur, il s'agit d'une idée de Rick Rubin car il ne voulait pas d'un batteur métal mais d'un batteur heavy rock car il est plus dans la lignée de Bill Ward. Nous avons jammé avec Wilk et ça a super bien sonné. Par ailleurs, ils n'ont pas encore décidé s'il allait tourner avec eux. On fait une tournée néo-zélandaise et australienne en avril et en juin, on s'occupe de la promotion de l'album aux USA en juillet et en août puis en Amérique du Sud et en Europe. Le leg américain ne se fera pas dans le cadre de l'Ozzfest."

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler spoke with 96.7 KCAL Rocks about the band’s upcoming new album, their first together since 1978’s “Never Say Die.”

A June release is planned for Sabbath’s “13”, the same title used by Megadeth for their 2011 album.

"Well, it was sort of a temporary name, that we had something to refer to the album as, and I think it kind of stuck,” Butler says, explaining the origin of Sabbath’s use of the title. “But I don't know whether that's going to be the final title or not. Originally we were gonna put 13 tracks on the album. We ended up doing 16 tracks, so I'm not sure what's gonna be on the album and what isn't."

“This is the first time we've done an album together sober,” said Geezer about the vibe in the studio this time around, compared to the old days. “None of us have been drinking or doing drugs or anything, so it's been more professional in that way. And we've stuck to a schedule every day, we'd go in at one o'clock and finish at six, just to keep everything fresh."

"It's sort of got the feel of the first three albums... back to the basic rawness,” he adds. “And the lyrics are very - they're just about life. Life and death and doom and everything else. You get Prozac with each album."

With original Sabbath drummer Bill Ward sitting out the reunion over a contract dispute, the group brought in Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk for the project.

"That was [producer] Rick Rubin's idea,” says Butler. “’Cause he wanted to have… He didn't want a typical heavy metal drummer on the album, 'cause it's not really a heavy metal album; it's more of a rock… heavy rock. And Rick Rubin suggested having Brad, 'cause he's more in the vein of Bill Ward. So we jammed with him and he sounded great with the stuff, so we went with that … It's sort of back to the way we used to be in the '70s; that's his feel — sort of a jazzy, bluesy feel to him, and that's the way the music is now. It was great working with him."

Will Wilk tour with Sabbath?

"We haven't decided yet,” says the bassist.

"We start in New Zealand and Australia in April, and then we do Japan. Then we do album promotion in June and then USA in July and August. Then South America and then Europe … [The USA trek] will be strictly [a] Black Sabbath [tour and not an Ozzfest run]."

Always-controversial producer Rick Rubin wanted Cream drummer Ginger Baker to replace Bill Ward in Black Sabbath, guitarist Tony Iommi has revealed.

The band’s plans for 13, their first album with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978′s Never Say Die were thrown into turmoil after Ward refused to participate saying he hadn’t been offered a contact that was “signable.”

But Iommi, who faced his own challenges with a cancer battle, rejected Rubin’s suggestion of calling Baker, who was recently named rock’s craziest drummer.

The guitarist tells Rolling Stone: “I thought, ‘Bloody hell!’ I just couldn’t see that.”

He’d already struggled with Ward’s announcement. “I didn’t know Bill was having these issues when we got together,” he reflects. “He never even mentioned it to us. It was quite confusing. We wanted him involved but it was just getting too hard.”

Frontman Osbourne states: “You can’t go, ‘Well, I don’t like it.’ You get off your ass and you get your shit together. The life of a bohemian rock star is fucking long over.”

Bassist Geezer Butler describes pre-production sessions as “confusing” after Rubin – who’s maintained his controversial reputation after being blamed for delays in Slayer’s next album – told them to try and recover the mindset they’d had on their 1970 debut album. Butler says: “We had to unlearn everything we’d learned.”

Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk was finally chosen to fill Ward’s role. The album – which Butler recently said may not be called 13 after all – is released in June and includes tracks called End Of The Beginning, Age Of Reason and God Is Dead.

Despite Rubin’s intentions, Osbourne reflects that the band’s outlook has changed significantly in their 43-year history. He describes the album as “Satanic blues” but reports of God Is Dead: “It starts off, ‘God is dead,’ but at the end it says, ‘I don’t believe that God is dead.’”

Dans la dernière édition de Kerrang!, le guitariste est interviewé par plusieurs de ses camarades musiciens dont Iommi : "Quand allons-nous faire cet album de riffs ensemble ? Tu sais de quoi je veux parler ?". May a répondu : "Oui, je vois de quoi il veut parler, et je suis très emballé. Mais cet album devait rester secret... c'est raté maintenant." Il raconte que lorsqu'il a visité le studio de Iommi, il a été très surpris par le nombre de morceaux inutilisés. "Je me suis dit que ce serait sympa de faire une compilation de tout cela. L'idée était de mettre en forme tous ces riffs, pour que les gens puissent ensuite créer leurs propres chansons avec Tony Iommi à la guitare!"
