Roger Daltrey des Who s'est fait retiré une tumeur sur les cordes vocales en décembre 2009.
Le chanteur s'est inquiété pour sa voix après une tournée de 30 dates. "Ma voix n'était pas normale" ça devenait difficile de chanter. j'ai eu beaucoup de chance de rencontrer Steven Zeitels [Directeur de Mass General Voice Center, Massachusetts]."
"Il m'a dit qu'il n'avait pas aimé ce qu'il avait vu. Il m'a parlé d'un problème possible au niveau des cordes vocales, que ce n'était pas un cancer, mais qu'il fallait surveiller."
"Je me suis senti déprimé après l'opération, j'appelle cette période 'le grand silence' "Et j'ai réalisé ce que serait ma vie sans ma voix."
Daltrey est un bienfaiteur de Teenage Cancer Trust, et est étroitement suivi par Zeitels, il a rendu hommage à l'institut de laryngologie et de restauration de la voix 'Je voudrais donner une voix à ceux qui n'en ont plus. C'est un projet extraordinaire."

Les organisateurs des JO de Londres ont contacté le manager des Who pour convaincre Keith Moon de venir jouer aux JO ..... Incroyable boulette car le batteur est malheureusement mort depuis 34 ans !

Bill Curbishley ajoute "S'ils ont une table ronde et des bougies, on peut toujours tenter de le contacter." Moon est mort en 1978 à 32 ans, après une overdose de médicaments.
Les organisateurs des JO souhaitaient qu'il participe à la symphonie Rock, une célébration de la culture pop British lors de la cérémonie de clôture des Jeux le 12 août.

The band are amongst a line-up of British acts to be closing the ceremony

The Mirror, via Ultimate Classic Rock, reports that the band have just signed up to play at the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony alongside George Michael, boy band Take That, and pop star Emilie Sande.

The concert will take place on 12 Aug at London’s Olympic Park.

The trip, which marks the band’s first dates on the continent in four years, will see the band perform their iconic 1973 double album “Quadrophenia” in its entirety, along with a selection of Who classics.

The critically-acclaimed “Quadrophenia” marked the British band’s second rock opera (after “Tommy”), raised the bar for rock albums as an art form and hit #2 on the U.S. Billboard album chart.

Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals).

In addition, subscribed members of The Who’s official fan club will be given priority access to purchase tickets for the upcoming “Quadrophenia” tour. The offer begins at 10:00 AM on July 20 and expires July 22 at 10:00 PM. Avant-hier soir, Pete Townshend est sorti de scène alors que le groupe interprétait You Better You Bet. La raison invoquée fut que le volume sonore fut trop élevé. A noter qu'il n'est pas revenu sur scène et que le groupe a tenté malgré tout d'interpréter Baba O'Riley et ce, sans les accords mythiques du sieur Townshend. Ses problèmes d'audition dateraient de 1979 et sont clairement évoqués en compagnie de Keith Moon dans le documentaire The Kids Are Alright où il aborde le fait d'aller consulter un spécialiste.

Last night (Nov. 1) in Sunrise, Fla., the Who kicked off their ‘Quadrophenia + More‘ tour, but all did not go so well at the BB&T Center. Towards the end of the show, Pete Townshend walked offstage because the volume onstage was too loud.

Much to everyone’s confusion, Townshend left the stage as the band was performing ‘You Better You Bet.’ When he refused to return, Roger Daltrey said, “Pete’s having guitar troubles.” The band attempted to play ‘Baba O’Riley,’ but without Townshend’s power chords and classic vocal break, it lost much of its power, and the band called it a night after that.

Shortly after the concert ended, Simon Townshend, second guitarist and Pete’s brother, tweeted “Pete walked off tonight because it was too loud. was a good show but had some technical problems.”

Townshend’s hearing problems have long been an issue. He played an acoustic guitar for much of the 1989 reunion tour, leaving the bulk of the lead work to Steve “Boltz” Bolton. In the 1979 documentary ‘The Kids Are Alright,’ Townshend relays a story to Keith Moon about visiting an ear specialist, who proceeded to tell Who manager Bill Curbishley that maybe Pete should “learn to lip-read,” causing Moonie to crack up.
