Valleys Of Neptune est une compilation indispensable pour les collectionneurs, tout à fait dispensable pour les amateurs, et totalement inutile pour le grand public.

Hormis les belles versions de "Hear My Train" et "Red House", mes titres préférés de Jimi avec "Machine Gun", je me suis profondément ennuyé. Qui a besoin en effet d'une énième version de "Fire", même si celle-ci passe plutôt bien ? Qui, hormis les complétistes (et encore...), a envie d'entendre des brouillons comme l'affreux "Ship Passing Through The Night" (avec un Mitch Mitchell qui fait un peu n'importe quoi), ou le "Lullaby For The Summer" (un embryon d'"Ezy Ryder", bien loin de la magnifique version avec Buddy Miles)? Le "Bleeding Heart" est sans surprise (la voix est pas top je trouve), "Mr Bad Luck" est inutile, le "Lover Man" est poussif, le "Sunshine Of Your Love" n'apporte rien (je n'ai jamais aimé ce titre). Le "Crying Blue Rain" part bien, mais ensuite?

Beaucoup de ces titres sont des versions de travail sans véritable ligne directrice. Et y'aurait pas quelques trafiquages à la Alan
Douglas (sur "Stone Free" par exemple)??? Même le morceau titre est laborieux, bref, c'est du second choix.

Cette compile aurait fait un Dagger correct, mais même pas un grand Dagger, un sous "Hear My Music" en somme. Je préfère même un vrai bootleg comme "Villanova Junction": au moins, on sait que le n'importe quoi est une ligne éditoriale, et
dans la boue, on trouve de l'or. Ici, rien de mauvais bien sûr, il y a
même de l'excellent, mais au final, c'est une compilation qui n'apporte rien, hormis de la confusion... Pire, elle est presque néfaste : c'est le plus grand guitariste de tous les temps qui joue ici? Non, c'est un
musicien qui travaille, qui tâtonne, qui (se) répète, qui (se) cherche: c'est donc parfois confus, à l'image de cette compile, qui va réussir la prouesse assez remarquable de consolider auprès du grand public le cliché du "Hendrix brouillon".

Chronique, ce jour dans Telematin, d'Alex Jaffray. Il avait choisi des images plus rares que celles que l'on voit habituellement.
Notamment quand il était musicien d'accompagnement ou avec Eric Clapton (epoque Cream).

Il devance Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards et Jeff Beck.

Le tournage tant attendu du film consacré à la vie (All Is By my Side) du grand Jimi débutera bientôt en Irlande. A noter qu'en son temps, Phil Lynott avait été approché pour interpréter le rôle mais le projet n'avait pas abouti. Pour ce film, ce sera André Benjamin qui s'y collera. Le film portera davantage sur les années 66-67 :

The life and career of Jimi Hendrix has long been talked about as a subject for a film, but it looks like it will finally be happening. According to reports, the movie, which currently has the title ‘All Is By My Side,’ will soon begin filming in Ireland, and will star Andre Benjamin, better known as Andre 3000 from the group Outkast.

However, instead of being the all-encompassing look at Hendrix’s career that is often the case with biopics, ‘All Is By My Side’ will focus on the period of 1966-7 when Hendrix was discovered in New York, brought to England and recorded his first album, ‘Are You Experienced.’

Benjamin has been trying to get a Hendrix biopic made since at least 2004, when the Hughes Brothers (‘Menace II Society’) were involved with the movie. ‘All Is By My Side’ will be written and directed by John Ridley, who wrote such acclaimed movies as ‘Three Kings’ and ‘U-Turn.’

As an actor, Benjamin has some experience, having co-starred with Will Ferrell in the comedy ‘Semi-Pro,’ a look at the days of the American Basketball Association. He has also appeared on ‘The Shield’ and did voice-over work on the animated series ‘Class of 3000.’

Shooting of the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, ‘All is by My Side,’ is currently underway, with Dublin filling in for London in the mid-1960s. The film, which stars Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000 from the hip-hop group Outkast, as the guitar hero.

Last month, the first pictures of Andre 3000 bearing a strong resemblance to Hendrix emerged, and now, some more have come to light. These photographs involve Andre 3000 and co-star Hayley Atwell walking down a street. Atwell plays Linda Keith, who was the girlfriend of Keith Richards at the time. Shortly thereafter, she left Richards and moved to New York to be with Hendrix. The British-born Atwell played Peggy Carter in last year’s ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’ Newcomer Ashley Charles is cast as the Rolling Stones guitarist.

‘All is by My Side’ is being made without the consent of Hendrix’s estate, who have refused to license his music for the movie. Drummer Kenny Aronoff recently told us that he spent two days recording versions of Hendrix and Cream songs with fellow session greats Waddy Wachtel and Lee Sklar for the film.

The story reportedly centers on Hendrix’s arrival in London from New York in 1966 and subsequent rise to fame.

Endorsed by Experience Hendrix LLC, “Hear My Train a Comin': Hendrix Hits London” focuses on Jimi's arrival in London in September 1966, his rise to prominence on the British pop charts, and his subsequent return to America in June 1967 when his incendiary performance at the Monterey International Pop Festival created a worldwide sensation.

Hear My Train a Comin' opens at EMP Museum on November 17, 2012. Highlights from the exhibition are now on view at The Hospital Club (thehospitalclub.com) in London through August 31, 2012.

"Jimi Hendrix surmounted racial and cultural barriers in America and Great Britain at a time when youth culture, pop music, and society were radically changing," says Jacob McMurray, EMP Senior Curator. Un album d'inédits intitulé People Hell And Angels sortira le 5 mars 2013 :

More than 40 years after his passing, a new Jimi Hendrix album is on the way.

Due March 5, 2013, “People Hell And Angels” is a collection of 12 previously unreleased recordings by the guitar icon.

The set features music recorded in 1968 and 1969 as Jimi works on material apart from the Jimi Hendrix Experience; sonically, the songs suggest new, experimental directions.

The legendary guitarist was considering these new sounds for “First Rays Of The New Rising Sun” (eventually released in 1997), the planned double-album follow-up to 1968’s “Electric Ladyland.”

Hendrix toys with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar, exploring fresh diversions from his legendary guitarwork.

L’album sortira le 4 mars 2013 et dispose de 12 morceaux inédits à ce jour, enregistrés par le regretté guitariste. Ces titres sont assez atypiques puisque le musicien y expérimente des instruments à vent, du clavier et diverses percussions, le tout accompagné d’une guitare rythmique.

Ces morceaux ont été enregistrés entre 1968 et 1969. Ils étaient destinés aux albums sur lesquels Jimi Hendrix travaillait sur le moment, à savoir, "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" et "Electric Ladyland"
