Metallica have officially confirmed they’re working on a 3D film.

The band have just released the following statement via their website:
‘As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with ‘Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We’re here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production!

‘We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.’

Metallica have announced the birth of Orion Music + More. So, what’s this all about? Come on in to read more.

Orion Music + More is an annual music, arts and lifestyle festival, which will be headlined by Metallica. It happens this year on June 23/24 at Bader Fields in Atlantic City.

“We’ve had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years,” said Lars Ulrich. “Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious. After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, , bringing the spirit of that week, the looseness of that week, the possibilities of that week, the fan interactive elements of that week, and the (fill in your own blank here) of that week to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves.”

Lars Ulrich va jouer le rôle d'un metteur en scène hollandais dans un téléfilm.

Lars Ulrich is to play a Dutch documentary film maker in a new TV movie.

The Metallica drummer has the role of Joris Ivens in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn, which tells the sort of the romance between celebrated author Ernest Hemingway and journalist/writer Martha Gellhorn, who was the inspiration for the former’s classic novel For Whom The Bell Tolls. It stars Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman.

This is Ulrich’s first substantial film role, although he did have a cameo appearance has himself in the 2010 movie Get Him To The Greek.

In a new interview with Metal Hammer the band revealed that they would be appearing on a couple of forthcoming tribute albums.

"We reached out to Wendy Dio [wife of Ronnie] about wanting to be a part of the Dio tribute that’s getting put together,” says singer James Hetfield. "We’re very honoured to be a part of that, and to be a part of a celebration of Ronnie’s life and his great contribution, man.”

"We’re definitely looking to do the record Wendy’s putting together for Ronnie,” adds drummer Lars Ulrich. "We were asked if we’d contribute to the anniversary of [classic Deep Purple album] ‘Machine Head’, too – we can’t turn that down. We’re circling the Dio and Purple catalogues and hopefully we’ll come up with something that is worthy of these wonderful men.”

Le groupe vient de tenir une conférence de presse pour évoquer les modalités du Orion Music+More Festival qui se déroulera sur 2 jours à Atlantic City. Pour le moment, quelques noms ont circulé : Best Coast, Cage The Elephant, Titus Andronicus, The Gaslight Anthem, Suicidal Tendencies et Sepultura. Les quatre compères seront donc en tête d'affiche sur les deux soirs dont l'un sera consacré à l'interprétation de Ride The Lightning et l'autre au Black Album :

In advance of this weekend’s Orion Music + More Festival, Metallica held a press conference to discuss the two-day event, which will take place at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J. Metallica will headline both nights and play ‘Ride the Lightning’ in its entirety tonight (June 23) and the ‘Black Album’ tomorrow.

James Hetfield spoke about the impetus for the festival. “We’ve been doing festivals for 30 years and we kind of know what we like and don’t like…and we’ve seen what other people have tried to do and wanted to do it better.”

The festival’s undercard and other stages will feature not only established bands like hardcore and metal bands Suicidal Tendencies and Sepultura, but also indie acts like Best Coast, Cage the Elephant and two of the Garden State’s finest rising stars, Titus Andronicus and the Gaslight Anthem. Hetfield believes the diversity will make for a better experience for the crowd.

METALLICA : pas de nouvel album avant 2014

Alors que METALLICA s’apprête à rentrer en studio en septembre prochain , Lars Ulrich, interviewé par Todd Hancock pour la radio canadienne 99.3 The Fox, annonce que le nouvel album du groupe ne verra probablement pas le jour avant 2014 : « Je ne voudrais pas utiliser le terme ‘proche’. Je veux dire, évidemment, dans le contexte, disons, selon l’âge de la planète Terre, nous sommes assez près. Mais dans un autre contexte, disons, autre chose, il peut y avoir une ou deux saisons de football, ou une ou deux saisons de baseball, ou une ou deux saisons de hockey … Nous devons faire ce film [ndlr : film 3D] et nous allons revenir à l’écriture lorsque nous aurons fait ce film. Je dirais d’ici 2013/2014 tôt ou tard. Il est difficile d’imaginer … Je pense que même la fin 2013 est peut-être un peu optimiste. Je dirais, j’espère, que nous pourrons obtenir l’enregistrement du nouvel album de manière réaliste dans environ un an et demi à partir de maintenant, alors peut-être au début 2014. »

Metallica et l'entreprise Vans ont décide de commercialiser une ligne de chaussures qui seront estampillées "Kill'em All"

Metallica and Vans have joined forces to present the new Vans x Metallica 20th Anniversary Half Cab Pro, part of a year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero's signature shoe with touches of “Kill 'Em All” art and lyrics on the black classic shoe.

The design features exclusive Vans x Metallica x Steve Caballero labeling, lyrics from 'Motorbreath' embossed on sides (“Those people who tell you not to take chances” / “They are all missing on what life’s all about”), and a unique clear rubber sole with the “Kill ’Em All” album artwork showing through.

In 2013, fans can look for a collection of four shoes, each one designed by a band member and released first to Met Club members in January. In March, Metallica and Vans will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Kill 'Em All” with two new shoes, the classic Vans slip-on and the SK8-Hi, each covered with the KEA album graphics.

"I've been wearing Vans on stage my whole freakin' career (and way before that!),” says bassist Robert Trujillo. “Whether I'm walking the streets of Venice or San Francisco, Vans provides the funk in my stride!"

METALLICA sortira Quebec Magnetic, son nouveau DVD (et Blu-Ray) live le 10 décembre. Ce live a été filmé en 2009 lors du passage du groupe à Québec. Un message sur leur site officiel précise qu’il s’agira de la première sortie sur leur propre label et qu’ils auront donc contrôlé de A à Z.

Jason Newsted a déclaré récemment qu'il ne regrettait pas d'avoir quitté le groupe il y a exactement 12 ans. Alors qu'humainement, le groupe était au bord du gouffre et ce, notamment à cause de l'alcoolisme chronique de James Hetfield, Newsted avait proposé à ses trois compagnons de faire une pause afin de régler tous les problèmes ambiants, de se ressourcer également puis de repartir sur un bon pied, chose qu'ils ont de concert refusée. Il ne lui restait qu'une seule chose à faire....

Metallica were the featured guests at the first Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday.

Metallica kicked off the San Francisco Giants’ home-opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers by performing the National Anthem and throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Cette dame a 90 ans et est la fan de Metallica la plus âgée. Son rêve était de rencontrer le groupe. Ils lui ont donc rendu visite.

Suite à son récent passage au Comic-Con de San Diego (Californie) afin de parler de son futur film 3D, METALLICA s’est exprimé sur ses futurs projets, notamment celui d’un nouvel album. Selon les dires de InsideMovies Lars Ulrich [batteur] a affirmé qu’ils ont passé les deux dernières années si enfouis dans la conception de ce film qu’ils n’ont pas vraiment commencé à travailler sur un nouvel album studio. Mais il a aussi clairement indiqué que, une fois qu’ils en auront terminé avec la promotion du film cet automne, ils seront prêts à se mettre au travail. « Nous n’avons plus d’excuses pour ne pas le faire d’ici là », a déclaré Ulrich. Il ajoute : « 2014 sera consacrée à la réalisation d’un nouvel album de Metallica. »

Le film Through The Never sera accompagné d'une BO enregistrée sur des concerts qui ont eu lieu l'année dernière à Edmonton et Vancouver. Un double CD sortira le 24 septembre qu'un vinyle. Un 45T numéroté sortira plus tard.

Metallica will release a companion soundtrack package to their upcoming 3D film, “Through The Never.”

Due September 24, the 2-CD set, "Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)" will highlight performances from last year's shows at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed all performance footage featured in the film.

The soundtrack is available for digital pre-order tonight at midnight EST and both the CD and digital album will be available at all retailers. There will also be a vinyl edition of the soundtrack album available in both 33 1/3RPM and special limited numbered 45RPM versions later in the fall.

"Let's hear it for the old-school soundtrack!" said drummer Lars Ulrich. “Not only are we beyond psyched about our movie coming your way shortly, but the fact that we get to share the music directly in all these formats is way fuckin' cool."

“Through The Never” tells the story of a band crew member (played by Dane DeHaan) who is sent out on a mission during Metallica's live set in front of a sold-out arena; while on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

The film will debut in IMAX theatres across North America for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27; it will then expand into additional theatres on October 4.

Up next, Metallica kick off an 8-date Asian tour on August 10 in Tokyo, a trip that will see the group’s first shows in China.
