Iron Maiden revient avec un superbe double live intitulé En Vivo !. Celui-ci a été capté à Santiago du Chili à l'Estadio Nacional. L'ambiance de ce concert est très facile à imaginer compte tenu de la ferveur du public sud américain.
Autant je n'avais pas particulièrement aimé leur dernier album The Final Frontier autant je trouve les versions live largement supérieures à leurs pendants studios. The Talisman, Coming Home et When The Wild Wind Blows passent particulièrement bien. Les classiques ne sont pas pour autant en reste puisque nous avons droit à des versions décapantes de The Trooper, The Evil That Men Do, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Number Of The Beast, Iron Maiden et Running Free. On passe un excellent moment avec Maiden qui, en live, possède encore de beaux restes.

Certainement l'un des groupes les plus productifs en albums live. Et réussis de surcroit.

Enfin une bonne nouvelle : dans une interview récente, Adrian a dit que le groupe travaillerait sur des chansons plus courtes pour le prochain album.

Guitarist Adrian Smith doesn’t know why NWOBHM giants have wound up writing longer and longer songs – as he recalls terror flight over Japan tsunami.

Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith says the band might abandon their recent trend of writing long prog-rock style tracks, and return to creating material that could be released as singles.

And he’s looked back at the moment singer Bruce Dickinson told them their customised jet was being diverted as the horrifying Japanese earthquake and tsunami took place beneath them.

Maiden’s 15th studio release, 2010’s The Final Frontier, featured 10 tracks of which The Alchemist was the shortest at 4.29 – but the average song lasted 7.40 with When The Wild Wind Blows clocking in at 10.59.

Smith says he’s not sure how that happened, but it might be because he, Dickinson and bassist Steve Harris stopped composing separately.

He tells VH1’s That Metal Show: “On the last couple of albums Steve, Bruce and me have written together, which is a new thing. Steve used to bringing three, four, five completed songs. But now he’s doing more arranging, production, overseeing. We sit down and write, and that’s reflected in the slightly different stuff.

“We’ve been writing longer for some reason. Maybe next time we’ll do some shorter stuff – but it’s difficult to look into the future too far.”

The guitarist was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Free and Thin Lizzy when it comes to songwriting. “They did some great singles – put things into three minutes, which is a difficult thing to do, but it can be done.”

Having said that, Maiden will do things their way, as they always have: “It’s just the band. There’s no outside influences. There’s never been a record company in the studio with us, so we’re lucky – but we kind of worked for that.”

The band’s recent tours have featured their customised Boeing 757, dubbed Ed Force One, often piloted by Dickinson. He was at the controls when it was ordered not to land as scheduled in Japan as the devastating natural disaster hit on March 11, 2011.

Smith says: “We were in the dark. Bruce did come on the intercom and said, ‘We don’t know what’s going on but we’ve got to be diverted.’ When we landed we were on the tarmac for two hours. We couldn’t get off the plane. The phone lines were down and we were trying to call – we knew something terrible had happened. We’re glad we didn’t land two minutes earlier.”

But the guitarist insists he has never felt any concern about his bandmate controlling their flights. “I’ve been up in a small plane with him, so I thought, ‘It’s just a bigger plane – it should be alright.’

“Anything he does, he gets right into it and he does it really well. And he does it for a living, it’s not like he does it as a hobby.

“I’ve seen him check out flight plans, literally just before a gig. It’s like, ‘We’ve got to go on stage in a minute!’ But he can switch on and off. He’s very professional. It’s amazing.”

Maiden are preparing for a US tour on which they’ll concentrate on playing material from their 1988 album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Smith explains: “Probably two-thirds of the set is going to be that kind of thing. It’s good to rediscover them. I like to play them slightly differently, but people know them so well you can’t deviate too much.

“If we remember the songs it’ll be alright.”

Et le 1er concert de Bruce Dickinson avec Iron Maiden. Comme écrit dans la pochette de l'album The Number Of The Beast, Maiden a fait une mini tournée de 5 concerts en Italie pour que Bruce se mette dans l'ambiance Maiden avant de rentrer au studio et écrire Children Of The Damned (1ère chanson enregistrée avec Bruce).

Bruce Dickinson a monté une entreprise qui s'appelle Cardiff Aviation Limited afin de créer 1000 emplois au Pays de Galles dans le secteur qu'il affectionne, à savoir l'aéronautique. Cette entreprise offrira ses services aux compagnies qui le désireront mais assurera également la maintenance des avions qui lui seront confiés :

Bruce Dickinson aims to create 1000 new jobs in Wales

The Daily Mail reports that Dickinson has set up Cardiff Aviation Limited, which will specialise in providing services for the airline industry and provide maintenance for aircraft up to Boeing 767 size.

The business will be based at St Athan Enterprise Zone in the Vale of Glamorgan, where it has taken 132,000 square feet of hangar space.

Dickinson said: "We're coming into this enterprise with the knowledge we'll be bringing business to South Wales.

"A cautious projection is that we'd expect to create up to a thousand jobs within 18 months based on the level of interest and commitment from aircraft manufacturers and operators.

"South Wales has long had an association with the aircraft industry and I am delighted I am able to play a small part in the continuation of that tradition."

Cardiff Aviation will be taking on the lease on the Welsh Government-owned Twin Peaks hangar to establish a maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) operation.

As well as providing maintenance for aircraft up to Boeing 767 size, the firm will offer training packages and technical support services.

He added: "We've been impressed by how pro-active they've been. They've really wanted to make this happen, and we've experienced a level of enthusiasm and drive that has been a delight to behold.

"We expect to announce the names of our first clients in May, and we're also currently dealing with expressions of interest from several more major and independent airlines."

Les membres d'Iron Maiden ont fait la fête pendant 3 jours à Lake District avant de participer à un évènement local. Bruce Dickinson et Dave Murray était à Grasmere pour le mariage de la fille de leur manager, Andy Taylor, Louise.
Louise a épousé Mark Christie à Grasmere, les invités ont ensuite rejoint l'hôtel & Spa Wordsworth pour trois jours, avec au programme BBQ et concerts. Le dimanche, Dickinson a participé à une course locale - Grasmere Sport’s Guides Race - il a terminé 161ème sur 181. Le chanteur a apprécié cette course : " il n'a pas fait de chichis, il a serré les mains de tout le monde, et a déclaré qu'il adorait Grasmere." Iain Garside, propriétaire de l'hôtel, a déclaré : “Louise a été baptisée à Grasmere, elle a toujours souhaité se marier ici, on nous a demandé d'organiser la fête. C'était magnifique.”

Iron Maiden sera à l'affiche de l'édition 2013 du Hellfest.

Iron Maiden : un mythe débarque au Sonisphere
Les organisateurs vont prochainement dévoiler une première salve de groupes qui participeront au festival Sonisphere à Amnéville. Enorme surprise : Iron Maiden, précurseur du heavy metal, sera en tête d’affiche.
