Carlos Santana et Neil Schon pourraient de nouveau collaborer ensemble. Ce dernier a fait partie de Santana il y a 40 ans.

It’s been more than 40 years since Neal Schon left Santana to form the band that would become Journey. However, a new interview with Schon reveals that he and Carlos Santana have had preliminary talks about a potential new project.

“I’ve reconnected with Carlos Santana now and we have been talking about doing something together again,” he told Noise11 (via Vintage Vinyl News). “We’ve talked a lot on the telephone and I hooked up with him before Christmas. You never know what’s going to happen. Life is full of surprises. It’s very exciting.”

Schon got his start in Santana as a 15-year old wunderkind in the Bay Area. He appeared on two of their albums, 1971′s ‘Santana III’ and ‘Caravanserai’ a year later, before he and keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie decided to branch out on their own in 1975. Two years later, Journey released their debut album.

Schon has been busy of late on non-Journey projects. In addition to the potential upcoming work with Carlos Santana, he released a solo instrumental album, ‘The Calling,’ in October. “It has sections that are rockin’ and very electric and then there’s sections that are really deep and bluesy,” he told us on the eve of its release. “But I love the fact that there’s a lot of melody as well, for being an instrumental record.”

Earlier this week Neal Schon spilled the beans about him working again with Carlos Santana, who gave the future Journey guitarist his start. Now, we have learned that the project is actually a reunion of the original Santana lineup.

Vintage Vinyl News is reporting that Santana has confirmation from nearly the surviving members — founding bassist David Brown died in 2000 — to appear on his next record. “As well as Neal we have the two Mikes, Mike Carabello and Michael Shrieve. I am pretty sure Greg [Rolie]’s going to do it. So that is pretty much everyone.” The lone member of the original lineup not mentioned above is percussionist Jose “Chepito” Areas, who played with Santana until 1980.

Those seven musicians only played on one album together, 1971′s ‘Santana III,’ which was Schon’s debut with the group. Carabello and Brown departed after that album’s release, and Schon left after ‘Caravanserai’ a year later and began Journey shortly thereafter.

The band’s namesake believes the musicians will have no problem picking up where they left off. “It will be like ‘Santana IV’ because we stopped at ‘Santana III,’” Carlos Santana added.

Santana says that the new record, which he expects to have an African feel to it, to be out in 2014.

ll était l’un des membres originels du groupe autour de Santana dans les années 60. Malone avait quitté le groupe en 1969 suite à des problèmes personnels, soit juste avant que le groupe ne gagne en notoriété grâce à leur prestation à Woodstock. Il avait alors perdu contact avec Santana, puis avait passé quelques années en prison à San Quentin, avant de devenir SDF dans les rues d’Oakland.

Une chaîne de télé locale a interviewé Marcus au début du mois de décembre, totalement par hasard, lors d’un reportage sur les déversements illégaux d’immondices en ville. Il était alors en train de fouiller dans les poubelles. Profitant de l’occasion, le musicien a expliqué qu’il était compositeur et qu’il avait joué à l’époque avec Santana. On peut le voir aux côtés des autres musiciens sur cette photo en Noir et Blanc.

Après la diffusion du reportage, Carlos Santana a lui-même décidé de partir à la recherche du musicien à Oakland.

Plusieurs recherches ont été organisées dans le quartier habituel, mais en vain... Malone était introuvable. Santana a alors contacté la chaîne de télé KRON par Facebook.

Après avoir confirmé que Malone était bien percussionniste de son groupe à l’époque, Kron a pu localiser Marcus et organiser une rencontre avec Santana la semaine dernière.D’après CNN, Santana a même offert à Malone un appartement et l’a invité à jouer sur le prochain album du groupe, qui comportera un morceau intitulé “Marcus ‘The Magnificent’ Malone.”

Avec leur album de reformation, Neil Schon a déclaré qu'il aimerait entreprendre une tournée mondiale avec le groupe.

Santana aim to take over the world again with their reunion album, says guitarist Neal Schon.

The Journey man has reunited with Carlos Santana and original members Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello and Michael Shrieve for an album that’s nearing completion.

And he wants to take the project as far as it can possibly go.

Schon says via Facebook: “We are wrapping up Santana IV this week. Sounds amazing!

“This record is going to take over the world. I hope management gets it together for us to tour – I will tour with Carlos either way.

“It’s way too happening not to. World domination once again.”

Meanwhile, Schon has hinted that there’s still little chance of another Journey album because keyboardist Jonathan Cain can’t be persuaded to take part. Asked about a new record he says: “Don’t tell me – tell JC. It’s like pulling teeth.”

Santana said last year that Schon had “chased him like a guided missile” to make the reunion take place. Drummer Shrieve reported in February the results were “beautiful,” adding: “It’s like putting on a pair of old jeans.”

Carlos Santana vient d'annoncer la date de sortie de l'album réunissant le line up classique c'est à dire avec entre autres Neil Schon à la guitare. Le 15 avril verra donc la sortie de Santana IV qui fait suite au Santana III de 1971 composé par ce même line up.

Carlos Santana annule ses concerts à Las Vegas pour raisons de santé

Le légendaire guitariste qui devait se produire à Las Vegas pour une série de concerts à partir du 8 décembre est contraint d'annuler en raison d'une intervention cardiaque.

Carlos Santana annule ses concerts à Las Vegas, où il devait se produire pour huit dates au House of Blues, en raison d'un problème de santé dont il s'est ouvert auprès de ses fans, mercredi dernier.

Le guitariste de légende a ainsi annoncé dans une vidéo mise en ligne sur YouTube mercredi qu'il devait lever le pied après avoir ressenti une gêne dans la poitrine et demandé à sa femme de le conduire à l'hôpital.

"Je voulais juste partager avec vous quelques informations sur ma santé", explique-t-il. "Il y a eu des rumeurs ici et là à propos de ceci et de cela. Donc, je suis ici pour clarifier les choses. Samedi dernier, j'ai eu un problème et j'ai demandé à ma femme Cindy de m'emmener à l'hôpital, parce que quelque chose n'allait pas dans ma poitrine."

"Je vais donc prendre un peu de temps pour m'assurer que je me retape, afin que lorsque je joue pour vous, je joue comme je suis habitué à le faire, à 150 pour cent. Je ne me présenterai pas à moins de pouvoir le faire".

Selon NME, le musicien de 74 ans a même dû subir une intervention cardiaque. C'est ce qu'indique Michael Vrionis, président de Universal Tone Management qui gère les intérêts du Santana. Il a déclaré dans un communiqué que le guitariste avait "subi une intervention cardiaque imprévue qui a eu un impact sur son show à Las Vegas".

Carlos Santana, considéré comme l'un des plus grands guitaristes du monde, depuis le début de sa carrière en 1969. Au cours de sa longue carrière, l'auteur de Black Magic Woman et Maria Maria a publié 27 albums studio.
