You can’t judge a book by its cover, an old saying goes. The same is true for albums. The FW has recently created a list of the 50 Worst Album Covers, and we here at Ultimate Classic Rock were shocked to discover three of our favorite artists had made the final cut.

The Beatles show up at No. 47 with the infamous “butcher cover” of ‘their 1966 Capitol LP, ‘Yesterday and Today.’ In fairness to the Beatles, ‘Yesterday and Today’ was not a “proper” Beatles album. It was compiled out of tracks from the U.K. releases of ‘Help,’ ‘Rubber Soul’ and ‘Revolver’ due to the differing approaches between Capitol and the band’s U.K. label, Parlophone. Still, the Beatles happily participated in the photo shoot by Robert Whitaker, so they must accept some of the blame.

Black Sabbath‘s 1975 album, ‘Sabotage‘ clocks in at No. 28. Citing its “cross-dressing sci-fi” vibe and “bulbous camel toe-inducing crotch shots,” they heap particular scorn on Ozzy Osbourne, whom they claim is wearing “a cross between a kimono and a bathrobe with construction boots.”

Breaking into the Top Ten at No. 9 is Jeff Beck‘s 2010 album, ‘Emotion and Commotion,’ which features a bald eagle carrying a Fender Stratocaster in its talons as sunlight streams on it. To them, it suggests that “God blessed America with rock n’ roll,” and while that may actually be a noble concept, it does seem a bit strange strange coming from Beck, who is British.

La scène s'écroule à Toronto !!!!!!!!!!! Le technicien batterie de Radiohead, Scott Johnson a été tué tandis que trois autres personnes ont été blessées.

Radiohead’s drum tech Scott Johnson was killed and three others injured when a stage collapsed hours before the band played in Canada.

Witnesses say the structure “caved in on itself” leaving Johnson, 33, crushed underneath. A 45-year-old suffered a head wound and two others sustained minor injuries.

The tragedy took place a week after ZZ Top refused to play a show saying there was a risk of a stage collapse – although that statement has been questioned by event organisers.

Radiohead crew were setting the stage at Downsview Park, Toronto, when the structure fell in. Around 1000 people were in the 35,000-capacity open-air arena.

Toronto Police spokesman Tonny Vella reported: “They were setting up when the top portion collapsed on top of them. Four people were hurt. The remainder, when they heard the stage coming down, ran from the area.”

Witness Dusty Lalas said: “There was a loud crash. It sounded like sheet metal and lightning, and we just saw the stage collapse.”

Downsview Park was evacuated immediately after the incident and Radiohead’s concert, the last in their current North American tour, was cancelled. Officials are continuing their investigation.

Johnson’s drum teacher, Ian West, told the BBC: “He was a great student and a great drummer. The list of bands he worked with was endless.”

The tragedy follows a series of similar incidents during last year’s summer festival season.

Cheap Trick barely escaped with their lives when a structure was blown down by a sudden violent storm at Ottawa’s Bluesfest. The band’s driver sustained a broken pelvis.

The following month, seven people died at the Indiana State Fair, with dozens seriously injured. Just a week later five were killed and hundreds wounded in a storm at Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival.

Last weekend ZZ Top refused to play a show in Atmore, Alabama. The band said: “We’re definitely from the ‘show must go on’ school but we had to draw the line this time when we found numerous hazards present at the venue. There was significant risk of a potential stage collapse.”

But organisers have since accused them of pulling the gig because their own crew had failed to protect their stage gear from potential rainfall.

A spokesman tells the Brewton Standard: “The band brought up safety concerns only after they saw their equipment would be exposed to the elements. Preparing for all kinds of weather is something other bands have dealt with professionally and with no negative effect on the audience.”

La chanteuse américaine porterait de la lingerie couleur chair.

Les membres de Killing Joke sont dans l'angoisse et l'inquiétude car Jaz Coleman, le chanteur du groupe a disparu, selon un message qu'ils ont posté sur la page officielle du groupe sur Facebook qui précise clairement que Coleman est "awol" c'est-à-dire "absent sans permission officielle".

Ce silence date du moment où Jaz Coleman avait indiqué, toujours sur Facebook, que la tournée de Killing Joke de l'automne 2012 était annulée.

Bon ... Ca sort en 2013, c'est en cours de tournage ...

Dick Wagner, que l'on ne peut jamais séparer de son comparse Steve Hunter et qui fut entre autres guitariste chez Lou Reed et Alice Cooper, va publier sa biographie en septembre :

Guitarist and songwriter Dick Wagner, a long-time Alice Cooper collaborator, will publish his memoir, Not Only Women Bleed: Vignettes from the Heart of a Rock Musician, in September.

The memoir, which is already available as a Kindle book, features a foreword by Cooper.

“I first saw Dick Wagner while he was playing with the Frost in Detroit, and quickly I filed him under ‘guitar players I’d like to steal,’” writes Cooper in the book’s forward. “Later I had the great pleasure of adding him to the Welcome To My Nightmare touring band, where along with Steve Hunter they became known as the “Dynamic Duo,” a name given to them by Steven Tyler.

“He considers them two to be the best tandem American guitar players in rock and roll. But Dick isn’t just a guitar player. He’s a gifted writer, and I wrote most of the post-Alice Cooper hits with him.”

The witty, touching Not Only Women Bleed: Vignettes from the Heart of a Rock Musician strings together a series of vignettes, with Wagner sharing tales from a lifetime of experience as a songwriter, guitarist and producer for Cooper, Aerosmith, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Air Supply and others. Wagner also provides tales of reckless behavior and debauchery with an emotional spin that will make them resonate with a wide audience. After a heart attack, stroke and brain surgery left him disabled and “drying up in the desert,” Wagner found enlightenment in an intensive care unit. Yes, Wagner has been around.

Wagner’s songs and lead guitar have been featured on more than 200 albums, garnering more than 35 platinum and gold records and BMI songwriter awards.

Classic rock stars were out in full force at London’s Royal Albert Hall Sunday night for Sunflower Jam 2012.

The 6th annual event raised funds for a UK cancer charity of the same name, founded by Jacky Paice, wife of Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice.

The evening, hosted by actor Jeremy Irons, consisted of many very special performances and collaborations from artists such as Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Brian May of Queen, Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, Alice Cooper, Ian Paice, Mark King, Alfie Boe, Kerry Ellis, Jerry Brown, Margo Buchanan, Micky Moody, Murray Gould, Nick Fyffe, Sandi Thom, Steve Balsamo, Temperance Movement, Uli Jon Roth and Wix Wickins.

This year's Sunflower Jam will be committed to improving the treatment and care of patients with pancreatic cancer.

The Sunflower Jam will use the proceeds of this year's Jam to do original research on integrated approaches to pancreatic cancer and also produce an easily readable summary of promising treatments for patients with pancreatic cancer, which will include conventional medicine, lifestyle approaches including nutrition, complementary treatments such as immune Modulation Therapy and hyperthermia, treatments are beginning to look promising such as photodynamic therapy and the ways in which the mind can be harnessed to help fight this disease.

Rush and Deep Purple are among the first-time nominees considered for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class of 2013.

Late Wednesday, the Cleveland-based Hall announced a list of 15 artists (from which 5 will be chosen) which represented a variety of musical genres.

"The definition of 'rock & roll' means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music," stated Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. "This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is 'rock & roll.'"

Artists are considered for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording.
