With a new album coming out, Rush are ramping up their publicity machine. On Thursday (May 10) bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee appeared on Real Radio XS in the United Kingdom to talk about ‘Clockwork Angels,’ namely, why it took so long for it to come to fruition.

Lee explained that the genesis of the album came about in 2010 when they were planning the ‘Time Machine’ tour. “We didn’t feel good about going out without anything new,” Lee said. “It feels to us that we need new material to stay contemporary in our view. So we…started writing some material based on an idea that we had discussed the previous winter for a potential album featuring a single story line. So we wrote four of those songs and two of them, we recorded very quickly, one called ‘Caravan’ and the other called ‘BU2B.’”

Rush was able to include the songs on the ‘Time Machine’ tour, which began in June 2010 featured the band playing their 1981 album ‘Moving Pictures’ in its entirety. But the tour, which was only supposed to last three or four months, was so successful that they took it around the world. The tour’s last show was July 2, 2011.

“Long story short,” Lee continued. “In the fall of this past year, 2011, we finally got back together to continue writing and putting the rest of the album together, and finished it in February.”

‘Clockwork Angels’ is coming out on Roadrunner Records on June 12.

Rush se produira au Sweden Rock Festival qui aura lieu du 5 au 8 juin prochain.

The band have been confirmed as headliners of Sweden Rock Festival for next year. It is scheduled for the weekend of 5-8 June.

It will their first European festival appearance in 35 years and it will include a full stage production.

Rush definitely delved a little bit into concept album territory with their latest release, ‘Clockwork Angels,’ and for those who want to go a little further into the story, you should check out ‘Clockwork Angels: The Novel,’ which will be released next month by ECW Press.

The book is a literary collaboration between Rush drummer Neil Peart, who initially came up with the concept and lyrics for the disc, and best-selling sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson.

The book will officially be launched Aug. 23 at the Richmond and John Chapters on 142 John Street in Toronto. Anderson stated via his blog that he would be in Toronto as a guest at the Fan Expo, but this book launch ceremony would be open to the general public and would mark the first time the book had been on sale. The co-author will also speak, answer questions and autograph books. The U.S. book launch will take place at DragonCon in Atlanta on Aug. 31.

ECW Press recently unveiled two special editions of the ‘Clockwork Angels’ novel, and each of the numbered items are available for pre-order at both ECW Press and through Rush’s Backstage merchandise arm. With a limited run of 300 copies of both the Silver and Gold editions, this should be a must-get for Rush fans.

The Silver Edition comes with a slipcase autographed by both Peart and Anderson and retails for $74.95, while the Gold Edition is also autographed by Peart and Anderson, but also includes a lithograph image from the book signed by artist Hugh Syme and a unique autographed page of the original ‘Clockwork Angels’ manuscript. The Gold Edition retails for $299.95.

A Rush classic is featured in a new advertising campaign for the 2013 VW Passat.

“Fly By Night” provides the soundtrack to the latest tv commercial for the brand. The ad features a middle-aged businessman stopping at a traffic light and rocking out to the song – full air drums included.

The Passat was named the 2012 Motor Trend Car of the Year.

The title track to Rush’s second album was released as a single in May of 1975.

Rush are currently touring North America in support of their latest album, “Clockwork Angels.”

Rush know they’re living through their final decade as a touring band, guitarist Alex Lifeson hints.

As drummer Neil Peart turns 60 he’s admitted he’s now sure how long he can keep delivering the kind of high-energy performance required of him.

The band have other commitments outside music – and Lifeson says there soon will come a time to focus on those.

“One day we’re not going to be able to do it any more,” the axeman tells Premier Guitar. “That’s a reality and I don’t think we should get too caught up in it.

“We’ve had a great run, we’ve left a great legacy that we’re proud of, and who knows what will come after that? I think my fingers will still work for a little while longer; I like to do stuff at home, to work with other people and continue to be musical.

“But there are other things in life, too, especially when you’ve dedicated your life to touring. We love what we do, but eventually it does come to an end. I don’t want to be 70 years old jumping around on stage. If we’re still making good music, sure – but I doubt it: most 70-year-old rock musicians I see are not really that enjoyable to watch.”

Peart recently said he wasn’t sure how much longer his stamina would last. Frotman Geddy Lee takes his point: “How much longer can we go out there and play three-hour shows at that peak level?

“I can see it in him. I don’t think we’ve ever worked so hard prepping for touring and I could see he was tired. There comes a point when you have to accept you’re approaching 60 and that three hours of blistering rock is for a younger man. That’s what he’s getting at.”

Lifeson adds: “He has a young daughter. We have all given up a lot being on the road, away from our families. I have two grandsons who I adore and love being with as much as I can be. I’m fortunate they feel the same way, so it kills me to be away from them.

“I know it kills Neil to be away from his daughter and miss those formative years. It’s tough for her as well. These things kind of eat away at you.”

In the meantime, Rush are riding high with an acclaimed new tour in support of their Clockwork Angels album, and – finally – nomination for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Lifeson says: “This has really been hard work this time. I know why: it’s not the physicality so much as the mental work. Plus working with a string section, two cellos and six violins, which is absolutely awesome.

“Hopefully we’ll get through this tour with no problems. I’d like to think we will, and that’s certainly our plan.”

Lee suggests: “Maybe it’s just inevitable that Rush tours down the road – if all goes well and there are Rush tours – won’t be three hours long.”

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays The Music Of Rush

Details are emerging about the release plans for a new live DVD from Rush.

MusicTAP reports the band’s "Clockwork Angels Live" DVD will be released on May 21.

The package is scheduled to be released the day before Rush resume the tour on May 22 in Manchester, UK.

The band filmed recent concerts in Phoenix (Nov. 25) and Dallas (Nov 28) for the project.

Rush will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class of 2013; joining the rock legends are Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman and Albert King.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on April 18 at the Nokia Theater, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in Los Angeles since 1993.

The event will be recorded for broadcast on HBO on May 18.

Rush have been nominated for two 2013 Juno Awards in their Canadian homeland.

The rock veterans are up for Group Of The Year, and Rock Album of The Year for “Clockwork Angels”, which will see them compete against projects by The Tragically Hip, Billy Talent, The Sheepdogs and Big Wreck.

Hosted by Michael Buble, the 2013 Juno Awards will take place at Regina's Brandt Centre and air live on Sunday, April 21st on CTV.

The Canadian awards happen the same week that Rush will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

The group will be inducted on April 18 in Los Angeles, along with Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman and Albert King.

Rush have been eligible for the Rock Hall since 1998; artists are considered for inclusion 25 years after the release of their first recording.

After the first show on July 12 sold out in minutes, Rush changed their schedule to accommodate a second show for the city they haven't been to in over 2 decades and announced a second show in Halifax on July 14 at the Metro Centre.

"We are thrilled that the good folks of Halifax have forgiven our long absence from their beautiful city and have decided to come out and celebrate with us!!" said Geddy Lee.

Rush were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Thursday night in Los Angeles.

The group were honored as part of the Class of 2013, along with Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman and Albert King.

Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters delivered the induction speech, filled with references to Rush’s lengthy career.

“Playing upwards of 250 shows a year from day one,” said Grohl, “the band built its following the right way – no hype, no bullshit. They did it from the ground up… without any help from the mainstream press…(coughs)…Rolling Stone.”

Rush then took center stage to wild applause from fans; the band seemed overwhelmed by the event and its meaning.

“We've been saying for a long time, years, that this wasn't a big deal,” said drummer Neil Peart. “Turns out that it kind of is."

Bassist Geddy Lee made a point of thanking the fans for their never-ending support.

“On my behalf of my two partners, I have to thank the most passionate, most dedicated, incredible fan base around,” said Lee. “For not only supporting and encouraging our musical progress over the years, but for the insistence of their voices, which has most certainly led us to this evening.”

Alex Lifeson wrapped up the speeches with three straight minutes of the phrase, “blah blah blah.”

The Rush portion of the live performances kicked off with Grohl (as Lifeson), Hawkins (as Peart) and producer Nick Raskulinecz (as Lee) - dressed in the 2112-era white robes, with wigs - cranking out a version of the 2112 Overture. The guys were joined near the end of the tune by Lee and Lifeson themselves.

Rush then rocked their 1981 classic, “Tom Sawyer,” and were the backbone of the night’s closing jam on “Crossroads,” which also included Heart, Chuck D, Grohl, Chris Cornell, Tom Morello and others.

The 28th annual Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on May 18.

RUSH a filmé à Phoenix et Dallas, le 25 Novembre 2012 et le 28 Novembre 2012, respectivement. Dallas serait la principale source pour le prochain concert DVD, et Phoenix principalement utilisé comme une sauvegarde...

Le 1er octobre prochain, Rush sortira une version remixée de Vapor Trails ainsi qu'un coffret (The Studio Albums 1989-2007) qui contiendra les sept albums sortis chez Atlantic Records :


Rush will release a remixed version of their 2002 album ‘Vapor Trails’ as well as a box set collecting all of their studio LPs for Atlantic Records in October. The new ‘Trails’ will also be included on the seven-disc box, which is titled ‘The Studio Albums: 1989-2007.’

The remixed ‘Vapor Trails’ stems from a pair of tracks that received a face lift in 2009 for the “Retrospective III” set. Fans have long complained about the kinda-shoddy mix of the album. Geddy Lee acknowledges the original record’s shortcomings in a press release announcing the new sets. “‘Vapor Trails’ was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances — sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again,” he said. “As a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrill’s remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work.

“Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of ‘One Little Victory,’ ‘Secret Touch’ and ‘Ceiling Unlimited’ to the melodic musicality of ‘Sweet Miracle’ and ‘How It Is,’” Lee continued. “These songs have been redeemed.”

Additionally, the group will release ’The Studio Albums: 1989-2007′ on the same day, Oct. 1, which features every album Rush released for Atlantic Records over the 18-year span. The set includes ‘Presto’ (from 1989), ‘Roll the Bones’ (1991), ‘Counterparts’ (1993), ‘Test for Echo’ (1996), the remixed ‘Vapor Trails,’ ‘Feedback’ (2004) and ‘Snakes & Arrows’ (2007).

Rush will release a new live package, “Clockwork Angels Tour”, on DVD/Blu-ray and CD November 19.

The project was filmed and recorded last November at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. The 11-month marathon world tour crossed North America twice and ventured overseas to Europe in support of the band’s acclaimed 2012 studio release “Clockwork Angels.”

In capturing the tour’s three-hour set, "Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour" pairs Rush classics ('Tom Sawyer', 'The Spirit Of Radio', '2112'), with a nod to the '80s Rush era ('The Analog Kid', 'Territories', 'Subdivisions') alongside newly reworked arrangements specifically for the tour featuring the Clockwork Angels String Ensemble ('Headlong Flight', 'YYZ', 'Red Sector A'). The string section marks the first time the trio has brought additional musicians on the road with them. To showcase their latest studio release, the epic set list also features nine tracks off “Clockwork Angels.” Other highlights include tracks rarely performed and never before recorded live ('The Body Electric', 'Middletown Dreams'), in addition to three separate drum solos by Neil Peart.

The DVD also includes a 25-minute tour documentary, featuring interviews with all three members and exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage. Titled Can’t Stop Thinking Big, the piece offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the Rush tour machine and insight into the band members themselves. Other special features on the DVD include the trio of hilarious shorts created specifically for the tour as well as interviews and outtakes captured during their filming. Additional filmed sketches and a rare soundcheck performance of perennial favorite 'Limelight' round out the exclusive offerings.

"Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour" comes on the heels of Anthem/Atlantic’s September 30th release of "Vapor Trails Remixed", a newly remixed version of the band’s 2002 album, and the seven-disc boxed set "The Studio Albums 1989-2007", which features every studio album Rush recorded for Atlantic Records.

Un nouveau documentaire sortira le 6 mai, documentaire qui retracera tout le parcours du groupe :

“RUSH: The Rise Of Kings (1968-1981)”, a new documentary about the Canadian rock legends, will be released on May 6.

The film traces the history of RUSH from the barrooms of Toronto in the late 1960s to the world's largest arenas in the late 70s and early 1980s, by which time they were amongst the biggest bands on the planet.

The set features a combination of rare and classic footage, the testimony of friends, colleagues and those who worked with RUSH through the years, plus exclusive and archive interviews and more.
