DEEP PURPLE : Paris, Zénith, 11/11/15

Pour cette imposante tournée automnale, le groupe avait emmené dans ses valises les talentueux zeppeliniens de Rival Sons qui, depuis quelques années ont publié des albums d'une excellence rare à savoir Pressure & Time, Head Down et Great Western Walkyrie. Un chanteur vraiment charismatique doté d'une voix de temps à autre épileptique dans certaines situations live, nommé Jay Buchanan (déjà, rien que son nom de famille est "célèbre" ne désirant pas pour ma part utiliser le terme de "légendaire" pour de multiples raisons), un guitariste très "pagien", Scott Holliday, une rythmique de plomb orchestrée par un bassiste efficace se faisant appeler Dave Beste et un batteur percutant Mike Miley composent ce groupe issu de Long Beach en Californie. A noter la présence d'un claviériste additionnel pour le live que pour ma part, je ne ne connaissais pas.

Je me trouvais dans l'impatience de les voir enfin après les avoir malheureusement ratés au Plan à Evry courant 2015. En 7 salves, nos Californiens vont incendier le Zénith et ce grâce à des titres comme les percutants Electric Man, Keep On Swinging, Open My Eyes et Secret qui alternent avec des morceaux plus mid-tempos qui captent une certaine émotion comme Where I've Been. Bref, je kiffe ce groupe depuis fort longtemps qui, à mon humble avis, est appelé à franchir rapidement les étapes vers une reconnaissance internationale encore plus étendue. En tous les cas, ils en ont tous les atouts car là, ils nous ont proposés un excellent set teinté à la fois d'énergie et d'émotion. Seul, l'avenir nous le dira....

En ce qui me concerne, cela faisait 5 longues années que je n'avais pas vu Purple jour pour jour car je crois qu'ils étaient aussi passés en ce lieu le 11 novembre 2010. A tergiverser pendant des années à ne pas (vouloir ?) y aller pour diverses raisons que je n'exposerai pas sans doute dues à une lassitude ou plutôt à une réflexion selon laquelle on s'attend à ce que l'on va voir. Mais quoique j'ai pu dire jusqu'ici, ça reste LE groupe de hard rock que j'ai découvert en premier avec le double live Made In Japan.  

Cessons-là toute nostalgie inutile et passons donc au concert lui-même.

En lieu et place d'Après Vous qui figurait en opener il n'y a pas encore si longtemps, le groupe débarque sur les planches avec ce bon vieux Highway Star toujours aussi efficace. Gillan est bien en voix et ça fait plaisir de l'entendre interpréter les parties aigües du morceau sans trop de difficultés. Avec Fab, étant des éternels grands enfants, nous nous déchainons comme des dératés en prenant soin de ne pas gêner les spectateurs qui se trouvent derrière nous. On continue sur Bloodsucker et Hard Lovin' Man délivrées ici dans des versions décapantes et ce, grâce à un Don Airey impérial. Sur l'énorme version de Strange Kind Of Woman, l'un de nos voisins aura la lumineuse idée de nous faire part de cette réflexion .............lumineuse : "Vous pourriez vous calmer sur ce morceau calme ???????????" Un mec "éclairé" sans doute.....Fab et moi avons préféré laisser tomber l'affaire.















Vincent Price de Now What ?! et son ambiance sombre à souhait à la Cooper résonnent dans ce Zénith archi-comble. J'aime bien, pour ma part, ce morceau où le tandem Paice/Glover fait des miracles, le tout enrobé par la chape en béton armé des synthés de Don Airey et les vocaux de Gillan qui sont parfaits. Versions surpuissantes que l'on retrouve également sur les deux récents live au Wacken et au Budokan.









Je pars aux gogues sur Contact Lost puis reviens non sans mal à ma place initiale pendant un Uncommon Man d'excellente facture car comme chacun sait "qui part à la ch(i)asse, perd sa place !!!!!". Le public français est loin d'avoir l'élégance du public anglais....

Même si je n'aime pas trop ce morceau, The Well-Dressed Guitar enfonce le clou avec un Steve Morse qui s'illustre de fort belle façon.

Ca débouche ensuite sur The Mule où notre Paicey, muni de baguettes lumineuses, nous démontre et ce, grâce à un solo inventif et jamais ennuyeux qu'il demeure un batteur d'exception.

















Au tour de Lazy et Demon's Eye (qui remplace Mary Long..........) d'être interprétés dans des versions très sympas puis Hell To Pay, ci-devant single de Now What ?!, un titre qui ne m'a jamais emballé plus que cela, suivi du keyboard solo qui débute depuis des années sur les premières notes de Mr.Crowley et qui, pour une fois, n'est pas trop ennuyeux...Perfect Strangers, devenu depuis fort longtemps, un classique du groupe nous est proposés dans une version, somme toute, assez conventionnelle mais très efficace. Encore une fois, Gillan est très en voix à ce stade du concert. Fab et moi, nous nous en réjouissons mais aussi, Stormy que nous rejoignons sur Space Truckin' proposé dans une version écourtée.













Inutile de préciser que Smoke On The Water suscite toujours autant d'enthousiasme dans le public qui répond aux sollicitations de Ian Gillan. Le groupe sort de scène pour revenir quasi immédiatement sur Green Onions couplé à Hush pour conclure en beauté sur Black Night.









Un très bon concert du Pourpre de toute évidence même si l'on peut regretter ce côté figé de la setlist qui avait un minimum bougé sur les dates précédentes avec la réapparition-surprise de Mary Long. Je trouve également qu'avec les années, le son live du groupe s'est épaissi voire étoffé et ce, grâce au trio Airey/Glover/ Paice qui m'a véritablement impressionné beaucoup plus qu'en 2007, 2009 et 2010. Et puis, il y a ce retour vocal de Ian Gillan dont on parle déjà depuis quelques mois et là, ça me fait franchement plaisir d'avoir assisté à ce petit évènement.

Si le Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame devait célébrer la musique de Deep Purple, Ian Paice pense que ça se terminerait en pugilat.

If the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ever gets around to inducting Deep Purple, they might want to look into hiring extra security for the ceremony.

Drummer Ian Paice tells Classic Rock magazine that the band’s many lineup changes would pose a major logistical problem behind the Rock Hall podium — to say nothing of the major personality conflicts that remain between certain Purple vets.

“Who would they induct?” Paice questioned. “There have been so many members of this band, even if they say it will be core members, who would it be? You also have to bear in mind, that if some people are inducted together, it could end in a punch-up. I don’t need to tell anyone certain key members and former members of this band do not get on. Personally, I think they would be better off inducting us individually. That avoids the problem.”

Further adding that “it could be a mess” for the same reasons if past and present members of the band tried to mingle for a live performance, Paice echoed dismissive comments previously made by Purple singer Ian Gillan, who’s gone on record as saying he has “no respect” for the Rock Hall committee.

“The Hall of Fame should be embarrassed for not inducting us already,” said Paice. “Look at some of the non-entities who’ve got in. I won’t name them, but just have a look at some of those names, and you’ll know who I mean. What have they ever done for rock ‘n’ roll? Nothing. Having these artists in before Deep Purple undermines what it is supposed to represent.”

Deep Purple sera enfin intronisé au Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2016 en compagnie de le 8 avril 2016 au New York's Barclays Center. HBO retransmettra le show au printemps.

DEEP PURPLE, CHEAP TRICK, N.W.A., CHICAGO and Steve Miller will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 8, 2016 during a ceremony at Brooklyn, New York's Barclays Center, with tickets on sale to the public in February. HBO will broadcast the show in the spring.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2016 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1990.

The DEEP PURPLE members that are being inducted are: Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. Asked if he thinks that makes sense to bring in those people, Paice told Rolling Stone: "I suppose it does. Realistically, you'd like to think that anyone who was ever in the band made a contribution and should really be listed. It doesn't matter if they were there for an album or two; everyone who was in the band actually contributed to the fact we're still there. All these people, from the very beginning to the current lineup, [have] helped maintain PURPLE as a viable touring entity that a lot of people around the world really enjoy. So to pick some over others, I wouldn't have done it that way."

Paice also agreed that part of the problem why it's taken so long for DEEP PURPLE to get inducted is the fact that so many voters are in America and DEEP PURPLE was never quite as big in the U.S. as the band was overseas. He said: "Of course, that does effect what people are aware of. If you're not seen on the U.S. touring circuit very often, then why would U.S. voters pick you? It's not a criticism. It's just a reality of life. Certain parts of the world have different musical tastes now. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of rock and roll fans in the States, but what is covered by the media and what is thrown in front of people by TV, like the flavor of the month, segregates things quite badly."

He continued: "We'll do a show where we'll have a wonderfully mixed audience of kids in the front, then people that are slightly older until you get right to the back. In other countries, you just have an audience of more mature people or just kids. It's been broken up in a way, which is so sad. The best shows are where everybody, of whatever age, are experiencing the same thing and getting the same buzz out of it. You need the kids to kickstart it, and once they get it going, the old folks remember why they went to a rock and roll show in the first place. It's a wonderful feeling when it all kicks off like that. In the U.K. and the States, the media has cut the generations in half away from each other. It's very sad."

Paice added that any decision regarding a possible performance at the induction ceremony will have to be made with the blessings of all the current members. "We don't have salaried guys with [keyboardist] Don [Airey] and [guitarist] Steve [Morse]. They are fully accredited members of the band and they share in everything, and into decisions as well. They will have to be consulted and see how they feel about anything that the three of us originals think we would or wouldn't like to do."

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone last year that he still hoped DEEP PURPLE would eventually get recognized by the Hall. "I'm not gonna get into the politics or all that stuff, but I got two words to say: 'DEEP PURPLE,'" he said. "That's all I have to say: DEEP PURPLE. Seriously, people, 'DEEP PURPLE,' two simple words in the English language. But definitely, NIRVANA is a no-brainer for the first year and I'm glad that KISS [got] the long-overdue recognition that they deserved for everything that they pioneered, and then I got two words, 'DEEP PURPLE!' Did I say that already?"

At their own induction in 2009, METALLICA's James Hetfield included PURPLE on a list of acts they wanted to see in the Hall. "We're somewhat of a heavy band and we have a small list that we'd like to also put some nods out and maybe plant a little seed, it's a band called DEEP PURPLE, THIN LIZZY, TED NUGENT, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD... who we would love to invite through the door now."

J'avais pas lu ta review. C'est chose faite et je suis content que le groupe est fait un bon concert.
Je ne me suis pas remis du pseudo live du Hellfest 2014.

Grande deception pour ma première de ce groupe sur scène.

Après Ian Paice, le chanteur Ian Gillan en rajoute une couche et déclare comme «très stupide" la décision  de Rock & Roll Hall of Fame d'exclure le guitariste Steve Morse et le claviériste Don Airey de l'intronisation du groupe.

Les membres de Deep Purple qui sont intronisés sont: Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes, Jon Lord et Ian Paice. Interrogé pour savoir si il pensait que cette sélection de musiciens avait du sens, Paice a dit Rolling Stone: «Je suppose que oui, mais je plais aux femmes comme toute personne qui a dans le groupe fait une contribution doit vraiment être siphonné . Cela n'a pas d'importance si elles étaient là pour un album ou deux voir quatre. Tous ceux qui ont été dans le groupe ont effectivement blessés par qui nous sommes. Toutes ces personnes, dès le début du groupe, ont contribué à maintenir PURPLE comme une entité  viable que beaucoup de gens dans le monde entier aiment vraiment. Donc, choisir un plutôt qu'un autre, je n'aurais pas fait comme ça ".

Sur son site web officiel, Gillan.com, Ian a dit à écrit: «avec ces manigances , l'intronisation n'est pas faite pour DEEP PURPLE. C'est une sélection arbitraire du passé, ce qui exclut Steve Morse et Don Airey, qui tous deux sont  la respiration de DEEP PURPLE depuis un temps très long.

"De toute évidence, c'est très idiot, et  ma réponse est assez simple:« Merci beaucoup. »

"Et ... quelle coïncidence ... Ce matin, j'ai reçu une invitation à un mariage de quelques vieux amis chers. Malheureusement, ma famille n'a pas été invitée et ils ont dit que je serais obligé de m'asseoir à côté de mon ex (nous avons divorcé il y a des décennies) au mariage.

"Ils ont été choqués quand j'ai appelé pour les remercier et décliner l'invitation."

Morse fait partie de PURPLE depuis 1994, tandis que Airey a remplacé Jon Lord en 2001.
