DEEP PURPLE

Il y a 25 ans jour pour jour , le groupe donnait , dans le cadre de sa tournée mondiale de reformation , le premier des deux concerts à Bercy. J'en étais bien évidemment. A noter que j'avais assisté aussi au deuxième qui eut lieu le lendemain.

The one-off show Deep Purple did in Zurich in December 2007 (see Darker Than Blue Issue 59) is now coming out on DVD. This was a private ten track show lasting about an hour, paid for by a Swiss banker.

Jon Lord est ferme là-dessus : "Il n'y aura pas de reformation de la Mark III" Il a toute de même subrepticement glissé qu'il aimerait bien retravailler avec Ritchie.

Jon Lord has told Classic Rock that he can’t ever see Deep Purple MkIII reuniting.

“I think it’s a dream too far,” says the great keyboard player. “ I know a lot of people would like it to happen, but it would have to have (drummer) Ian Paice involved, and right now he’s committed to the current Purple line-up. And I know they are planning a new studio album, as well as more touring.”

While at pains to point out that have never been plans made for himself, Paice, vocalist David Coverdale, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and bassist Glenn Hughes to get back together, there has been some talk among the protagonists.

“I got an email from David recently, and it seems Glenn and Ritchie might be into it, although I don’t know how Glenn feels now, with Black Country Communion happening. Yes, I would love to play with Ritchie again, but don’t read anything into that as far as MKIII is concerned.

“I must admit I’d also have a concern or two about David’s voice.”

Lord, meantime, is hatching plans of his own for a new prog rock style band. More on this soon.

Ah , Paris en ce beau jour du 20 février 1987 !!!

Selon Ian Paice , 9 titres auraient été enregistrés et le groupe reviendrait à quelque chose de plus hard et ce , sous la pression du public.

We have yet to see something official on this but according to reports in our own comments and on the DP Hub, Deep Purple has been recording new material at Ian Paice’s studio in Spain.

Apparently 9 complete songs were recorded in March with Ian Paice overseeing the project. The band have 7-8 other unfinished ideas that they want to finish in a future session and later they will choose the best 10 songs to include on the album. At this time, it looks like the record is produced by Ian Paice and Roger Glover.

Paice said that the musical direction on the songs is definitely harder than the last album Rapture of the Deep. “The kids want to hear hard rock from us”, Paice said.

miniature reproduction of an original Deep Purple 1976 magazine (28 pages)

The 28 page booklet is exclusive for the DVD+CD digipak package. Contents of the 36 page booklet will be printed on the inner sleeves of the double LP. The CD+DVD jewel case and blue-ray packages will include only the regular 16-page booklet.

Phoenix Rising DVD

The Mk 4 DVD is now being scheduled for late May 2011. It is now retitled Phoenix Rising, and is a DVD packaged with a live audio CD. The DVD has a documentary (titled Gettin' Tighter); this was originally a sort of 'making of' Come Taste The Band, with studio knob twiddling, interviews, and footage of Deep Purple Mk 4, but is now extended to tell the story of the Mk 4 tour. More live material has been unearthed but we still do not know exactly what will be included beyond the 30 minute Rises Over Japan film.

There are three editions planned, a CD / DVD pack in a CD sized case. A DVD / CD pack which will include a small book and be a limited edition. A blu-ray edition with both video and audio elements on one disc.
The DVD will offer surround sound on the Rises footage. The disc will be NTSC only. So, it will play in the US, and on most DVD players worldwide. However, we have no info on a US label release at present.

The audio CD will include tracks from the Tokyo 75 and Long Beach 76 Purple Records releases.

Réaction après coup concernant tout particulièrement Glenn Hughes. Il a quand même eu du bol, notre ami, avec tout ce qu'il a absorbé en substances illicites en tout genre. D'ailleurs, il le dit lui-même et nous l'a redit lors de l'interview du 13 avril dernier. Comparable à un Hendrix, Morrisson ou même encore un Lynott dans la dépendance, il n' a dû son salut qu'à une sérieuse prise de conscience assez récente. Il y a comme ça des miraculés comme Clapton ou même Townsend qui traversent le temps. Ce qui est frappant également, c'est l'émotion avec laquelle il relate toute cette époque notamment lorsqu'il pense à Tommy Bolin.

Réédition de vieux live :

On August 16 Eagle Rock Entertainment will release on CD 4 historical Purple live albums: In Concert 1970/1972, Scandanavian Nights, Live in London and Mk.III The Final Concerts. Out of those, Live in London will be available domestically in North America for the first time. In Concert 1970/1972 and Scandanavian Nights were released on Spitfire in 2001, while Mk.III The Final Concerts was released circa 1997 by the now defunct label Archive Records under the title Archive Alive! and has long been deleted.

Purple don’t quite get as radical as Gabriel, but Live At Montreux 2011
(Eagle Vision) does see them working with an orchestra, and it’s
certainly effective. The way the band and orchestra bond together seems
natural enough, and it brings a fresh life to Purple, who seem to have
been on the road forever. This is available as a DVD or a double CD.

En parlant de reformation et histoire de juger/apprécier/dénigrer, etc, etc... ça - a postériori - via les docs videos, voici qq infos de Drew Thompson via Facebook : "Over the years a number of filmed concerts from the Perfect Strangers tour have come to our attention, including the initial (staggering) Australian shows, Paris 1985, Alpine Valley USA 1985 and whilst there has been much speculation over the Providence USA show,unfortunately it appears that no tapes exist for this show - although small snippets have been found in the MTV archives which form the basis of the documentary. The 3 Sydney shows from December 1984 were all filmed. More details should come to hand by late January 2012." et ça aussi : "2012 will see the release of the long anticipated DVD of the Perfect Strangers 1984/85 tour which had Purple as the second biggest grossing band in the world ....There will be a full concert presentation and a documentary of the period. Stay Tuned!" Excellente news donc concernant les shows australiens... Espérons que ça soit 1 de ces shows qui soient privilégiés et non Paris, Rockpalast (Big Ian n'étant malheureusement pas au top sur cette date)... Let's see....

Bob Ezrin qui a produit Alice Cooper, Kiss, Kansas, Pink Floyd et Peter Gabriel, va dirons-nous, aider le groupe à finaliser le nouvel album :

Bob Ezrin will help band shape new record

Guitarist Steve Morse told Glide magazine: "Deep Purple has a writing session and we’re producing an album with Bob Ezrin, who’s done KISS, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper, and he also worked on the last Kansas album, when I was with Kansas. So he’s one of my favorite producers and that’s going to be our studio album. It’s probably going to be more of an extravaganza.”

Deep Purple’s previous studio album was 2005’s Rapture of the Deep. Morse explained that the band feels like time is ticking on their recording career.

"Everybody realizes we’re not going to do this forever, so to me it feels like this is a really important album to do well,” he said. "So we’ve got that coming up and mixed in with that, and that is most of the summer with the album, and then I have to leave when they’re doing vocals on that to do the G3 tour.”

Permettez-moi de vous faire part de mon mécontentement quant à la sortie de ce tribute, à peine Jon Lord décédé. Messieurs les artistes, un peu de décence tout de même, attendre quelques mois aurait été sans doute plus approprié. Mais bon, "la vie est dure est pour tout le monde !!!" C'est là, votre message et bien sachez que je n'approuve pas cette démarche. Voilà, c'est dit.
