Réactions à la sortie du I

Quand le I est sorti , les réactions furent unanimes. En effet, pour beaucoup , cet album représenta un tournant dans le monde du Rock . A aucun moment aucune faiblesse n'est perceptible que ce soit sur Good Times Bad Times , Communication Breakdown ou bien encore Dazed And Confused . En février 69 , Dennis Oz résuma cet album avec une phrase pour le moins humoristique: "On en a fini avec les tignasses de hippies, on a rendu nos colliers à Mamie et l'on s'est enfin débarrassé des caftans et de l'encens ."

La fin des années 60 ont marqué un tournant de toute façon,avec l'apparition du Hard Rock-Heavy Metal avec Black Sabbath,Led Zep et Deep Purple mais aussi de l'Art Rock avec Tommy des Who qui allait inspiré Queen mais aussi Pink Floyd et d'autres groupes des années 70.

Forty years
ago this spring, Led Zeppelin’s debut album received a belated release
in the UK. It followed a US launch in early January that coincided with
their first tour of America. By the time it had arrived on UK shelves,
the debut Zeppelin album was already high on the Billboard chart.
Subsequent homeland success would cement it’s reputation as one of the
most significant debut albums in rock history. Here Zeppelin author
Dave Lewis tells the story of a landmark record that catapulted Led
Zeppelin to international acclaim and kick-started an entire genre.
IN THE BEGINNING: THE YARDBIRDS EVOLVE INTO LED ZEPPELIN
The origins of this famous album can be traced back to the early
months of 1968 and the demise of The Yardbirds. By that time, the
erstwhile R & B outfit, which had spawned the talents of Eric
Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, had reached something of a
crossroads. Their UK hits had long since dried up but they had created
a significant niche in the American market. Led by the shrewd
management of Peter Grant, they built up a notable following on the US
college circuit and also established a strong reputation at Bill
Graham’s East and West Coast Fillmore …

Il me semble que Jim Mac Carthy avait du faire écouter à Page les musiques exotiques qu'il semble adorer.
Il y a souvent un petit relent d'Espagne dans le jeu de Page, et Kashmir arrive longtemps après Hot House of OmarGarashid.

En 1969, Glyn Johns fit écouter le premier album du Zep à Mick Jagger et George Harrison qui l'ont immédiatement détesté. Dans son autobiographie à paraître, il avoue qu'il ne s'est toujours pas remis de l'écoute de ce premier album.

Producer Glyn Johns says when he played Led Zeppelin’s debut album to Mick Jagger and George Harrison in the late 60s, neither of them were interested.

The veteran music man has worked with a host of bands including Zeppelin, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, the Eagles, Eric Clapton and the Small Faces.

And in his upcoming memoir Sound Man: A Life Recording Hits With The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, and The Faces… he also reveals he hasn’t come down from the high of hearing Zep in the studio for the first time, saying he was “completely blown away.”

He tells Music Radar: “Jimmy Page and I both grew up in the same town in south London – we even had a little band together for a short time. I got him a few sessions in the 60s, and when he decided to put Led Zeppelin together, he asked if I was interested.

“The sessions were booked under the name The Yardbirds, and I had no idea what it would sound like. But when they started playing, I was completely blown away.

“I don’t think I’ve come down yet from the staggering buzz I got from being in the room. They were well rehearsed and masters at what they did, which is why it took only nine days – including mixing.

Beaucoup de grands noms de la scène rock ont blêmi lorsque l' album éponyme du ZEPP est paru, ça leur a mis un sacré coup de vieux, un peu comme le premier HENDRIX en 1967.
