Jimmy Page joined Roy Harper onstage at the Royal Festival Hall, when the latter celebrated his 70th birthday on Saturday, November 5 (even though his actual birthday was June 12). Page played acoustic guitar for The Same Old Rock, the song which appeared on Harper’s 1971 album Stormcock, when Page played under the pseudonym of S. Flavious Mercurious. Harper also paid tribute to both Bert Jansch and David Bedford, both of whom died recently. Source : Classic Rock |

Jimmy Page's Death Wish II Collectors' Edition LP is released this Thursday (December 1st 2011) at 15:00 GMT (07:00 PST / 10:00 EST) exclusively through JimmyPage.com. Explaining the release of the album, Jimmy said: “In 1981, Michael Winner asked me if I would compose the soundtrack to Death Wish II. The songs with vocals were only going to appear in the film for a matter of seconds but I had recorded full versions of them anyway - which is how I ended up doing my first soundtrack and soundtrack album. I’ve re-released this because I wanted it to be available again.” Editions will be sold on a first come, first served basis, so you'll need to be quick tomorrow to reserve a low number edition. Before the name Jimmy Page became synonymous with Led Zeppelin and Hard Rock guitar, the guitarist was a much sought-after session player, appearing on an assortment of artists’ recordings. Some were well known (The Kinks, The Who, Joe Cocker), others somewhat more obscure, such as this rare album with vocalist Keith The Groot, which additionally features half a dozen of the cream of the crop of British studio musicians. Including future Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones, and Nicky Hopkins, later often found tickling the ivories in the company of The Rolling Stones.Jimmy touched upon a variety of musical styles throughout his career, and these fourteen tracks – which he also co-produced – can be effectively placed in the 1960s Rock genre. The amps are not yet overdriven and cranked up to eleven, but you do get a glimpse into Page’s imposing work as a “hired gun” playing catchy tunes and memorable riffs. Page’s solo on “Burn Up” for example is a true gem, right up there with his solo on Joe Cocker’s version of “Blackbird”. The album includes renditions of Blues classics like “Lovin’ Up A Storm”, “Think It Over” and “Burn Up” along with covers of Roy Orbison’s “Down The Line” and Carl Perkins’ “Dixie Fried”. |

| February 19, 1993
On this day in 1993, it is said that I jammed with Mason Ruffner at the Muddy Water's club in New Orleans.
I don’t have too much recollection of this, but I met him at the Old Absinthe House bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during the Firm tour of 1985 and he became a good friend.
Mason is a blues guitarist and vocalist in a real Texan tradition. He played as support to the second 'Firm Tour' and also opened shows for the Outrider Tour, later in 1988. Mason also played on Bob Dylan’s 'Oh Mercy' album, which was recorded in New Orleans and produced by Daniel Lanois.

Jimmy Page is to release a special album next week. And he’s posted a personal message to explain all. Read on to find out the full details.
“On March 20, the Spring Equinox 2012, the title music for Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks will have its premiere and release.
“The title music, along with other musical pieces recorded at my home studio in the early Seventies, have been revisited, remixed and released for the first time.
“This is a musical diary of avant-garde compositions and experiments, one of which was to appear on the film Lucifer Rising.
“The collection has been exhumed and is now ready for public release. This will be available exclusively on the website.
“There will be a standard release on heavyweight vinyl.
“In addition there will be a special run of 418 numbered copies. The first 93 copies will be signed and numbered.
There are liner notes and commentary to each track.”
The full track listing is: Side One 1) Lucifer Rising – Main Track Side Two 1) Incubus 2) Damask 3) Unharmonics 4) Damask – Ambient 5) Lucifer Rising – Percussive Return
The album will be available at Page’s official website from 2pm UK time on Tuesday, March 20. However there is also a deluxe edition, which is restricted to just 418 copies, 93 of which are signed. If you want to get one of these, then you have to pre-register now. Click here for the deluxe edition, and here for the signed version. On March 19, a random selection of people eligible to buy these will be made. |

Imagine how Jimmy Page — who generously promoted the 2012 London Olympics during closing ceremonies for the 2008 games in Beijing — felt when he learned that the Who‘s Keith Moon was invited to perform before he was. The Led Zeppelin guitarist says he’s very upset about being completely left off the lineup. “Of course, I’m feeling rather hurt,” Page tells the British Telegraph. “We put so much into Beijing, but weren’t helped by the Chinese giving us next-to-no practice time.” He played with pop singer Leona Lewis, performing ‘Whole Lotta Love’ next to one of the red double-decker buses that symbolize London. Perhaps organizers thought the 68-year-old Page was dead. After all it was just a month ago that they invited Moon, who’s been dead since 1978, to perform. That request led to one of the all-time great email exchanges. “I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium,” manager Bill Curbishley said. “If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him.” Not only is the guitar great alive, he’s been very busy selling his and Led Zeppelin’s artist memorabilia through his official website and other venues. In March he released ‘Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks,’ a scrubbed soundtrack for a 1972 film of the same name. Filed Under: Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin |

| Oups !
